Zero@wavefunction 2002 (Personal Project)

“Zero@Wavefunction” is the first project of the long term collaboration with nanoscientist James Gimzewski. Here we created together a piece that allows the audience to manipulate the buckminsterfullerene (buckyball) using their shadow. Buckminster Fuller was the focus of my PhD thesis and it is through this study that I became aware of the buckyball which was the focus of Gimzewski’s research while at IBM Zurich. My idea was to blow up the molecule to a monumental scale as opposed to creating something at that inaccessible scale, making a point that all is made of molecules and interconnected. The projected molecular shapes are changed with slow and careful movement and cast shadow and no change takes place with aggressive movement.
